Regional Science Association International
The Regional Science Association International was founded in 1954 to promote the free exchange of ideas and viewpoints related to regional science. Its membership is drawn from all parts of the world, and includes people from a wide range of academic disciplines and professions who share an interest in spatial issues. Economists played a major role in the early development of the Association, but in recent years the scope of regional science has broadened. Today geographers, planners, mathematicians and sociologists are also active in the Association. In many parts of the world there are local sections of the Regional Science Association International that organise activities and prepare publications with the general objectives of the Association in mind. These local sections are particularly active within North America, the Pacific Basin, and throughout Europe, including Britain and Ireland. These groupings are reflected in constitutional changes, introduced in 1990, whereby the co-ordination of world-wide activities now rests with the Regional Science Association International (RSAI).
