Call for abstracts

The RSAI British & Irish Section invites the submission of abstracts to be considered for the 2011 Annual Conference. Quality papers in all areas of regional science are welcome; for further details see here.

Please submit abstracts of approximately 300 words by e-mail to the Secretary of RSAI-BIS, Dr Declan Jordan (d.jordan@ucc.ie) as soon as possible, and by 25th March 2011 at the very latest. Authors will be notified of the committee’s decision in April 2011.

During the conference there will be special session for early career/doctoral students with prizes for the best conference paper and the best conference presentation. Those applying for the best presentation must be at a stage prior to a PhD viva date, while those applying for the best conference paper must be within 3 years of their PhD viva. If you are eligible and wish to be considered for these prizes please bring this to the attention of the Secretary when you submit your abstract.

Doctoral Colloquium

For the first time, the RSAI-BIS is also organising a Doctoral Colloquium for doctoral students the day before the Annual Conference. The Colloquium will provide an opportunity for doctoral students to discuss their research and work in progress with distinguished faculty members. Overviews of the current state of the research in regional science will also be included in the programme of the Colloquium. There will be opportunities for doctoral students to interact informally both with each other and the faculty.

Attendance at the colloquium is free for doctoral students who are attending the Annual Conference. All participating doctoral students are also required to register for the Annual Conference and may present papers at the conference. They are also eligible to apply for consideration for the early career researchers prizes.

Doctoral students who wish to attend the Colloquium should indicate this when submitting abstracts for the conference.

Participants are required to submit a research summary (approximately 4 pages) by June 30, 2011 including  a short (100 words) abstract. The summary should include, for example, the expected contribution, the research question(s) and its location within the literature, a brief overview of related work, the methodological approach, research conducted to date and results so far. Further information is available here.

For further details regarding the conference and/or colloquium please contact the Secretary: Dr Declan Jordan, Secretary RSAI-BIS, Department of Economics, University College Cork, Western Road, Cork, Ireland. E-mail: d.jordan@ucc.ie.
