Getting to Cork
Cork is served by an international airport with daily direct flights to Heathrow, Stansted, Liverpool, Glasgow, Manchester, Amsterdam, and Paris with Aer Lingus or Ryanair. There is a bus service from the airport to the city centre that takes about 20 minutes. A taxi would cost about €20.
Dublin Aiport has a wider range of flight connections, including to the US. There is a direct bus service from Dublin Airport to Cork city centre. This takes about 2 1/2 hours. Alternatively, you can travel from Dublin Airport to the city centre to get a train to the centre of Cork. There are hourly train services between Dublin and Cork, and the journey is a handy 2 1/2 hours.
It is also possible to fly to Shannon Airport (which has direct transatlactic routes) and get a direct bus to Cork city. You can get more information on the Bus Eireann website by clicking on 'Buy Tickets' and entering the route from Shannon Airport to Cork City Bus Station (Parnell Place).
If you wish to travel to Cork by ferry and train, there is a direct ferry with Brittany Ferries to Cork from Roscoff in France. From the UK, there are ferries from Holyhead to Dublin (where you can get a bus or rail transfer to Cork) and from Fishguard to Rosslare (with bus connections to Cork) with Irish Ferries and Stena Line.

Getting around Cork
Cork is a very compact city and you should be able to walk between the conference venues and most hotels in the city. A 20 minute walk is the longest any hotel would be from the conference venue. The train station is 15 minutes from the campus and the 205 bus goes between the train station and UCC. The bus station is close to the city centre andthe 205 also passes the bus station on its way to UCC.
There is a relatively good bus service around the city also. If you are staying near the university campus then the 220, 205, and 208 bus services will bring you to and from the city centre in a couple of minutes. The buses will accept cash, but not debit/credit cards. There is also a Leap Card system but for short stays this may not be worthwhile getting.
We would strongly recommend the Cork City Bike scheme for which you can buy a 3-day pass for only €3. Any trip under 30 minutes (which would get you anywhere within the city) is covered by this pass. There are bike stands at the campus gates and there are good segregated bike lanes from the city to the campus.
