The Moss Madden Memorial Medal – Regulations
At the Annual Dinner in Bath, September 2000 it was announced that the Section is to award, on an annual basis, the Moss Madden Memorial Medal to the member(s) of the Section who author the best article published in any area of regional science published in any journal in a calendar year.
The committee have agreed that the Medal will be awarded under the following conditions:
1. The Regional Science Association International: British & Irish Section may award annually, on a calendar year basis, the Moss Madden Memorial Medal.
2. If awarded for any year, the Medal shall be presented to the recipient or recipients at the annual conference in the following year, so for example the 2018 winner will be presented with the medal at the annual conference dinner in 2019.
3. The Medal shall be awarded to the member or members of the Section that have written the article of greatest distinction published in any area of Regional Science during a calendar year. It has subsequently been decided that the article need not have appeared in a Regional Science journal.
4. In order to be awarded the Medal all the authors of the relevant article must have been members of the British & Irish Section in the relevant year.
5. The Medal shall be awarded by a jury of three.
6. The jury shall have the sole authority to determine whether any article should be regarded as being in an area of Regional Science.
7. Members of the jury shall not be eligible to receive the award of the Medal.
8. The jury may elect not to award the Medal in any year that either there is no qualifying article or they determine there is no article of sufficient merit.
9. It is the responsibility of the jury to monitor publications in major regional science journals. However any member of the Section may propose an article for consideration by the jury.
10. Decisions made by the jury are final.
