Moss Madden Memorial Medal
The Regional Science Association British and Irish Section awards, on an annual basis, the Moss Madden Memorial Medal to the member(s) of the Section who author the best article on regional science published in a particular calendar year.
Members of the section may nominate papers for consideration for the prize. Members should note that the Medal is awarded to the member or members of the Section that have written the article of greatest distinction published in any area of Regional Science in a given calendar year. Nominators should provide a reference to the article. Also, self nominations are allowed.

The Moss Madden Memorial Medal – Regulations
At the Annual Dinner in Bath, September 2000 it was announced that the Section may award, on an annual basis, the Moss Madden Memorial Medal to the member(s) of the Section who author the best article published in any area of regional science published in any journal in a calendar year.
If awarded for any year, the Medal shall be presented to the recipient or recipients at the annual conference in the following year, this means that, for example, the 2024 winner will be presented with the medal at the annual conference dinner in 2025.
The committee have agreed that the Medal will be awarded under the following conditions:

The committee have agreed that the Medal will be awarded under the following conditions:
- The Medal shall be awarded to the member or members of the Section that have authored or co-authored the article of greatest distinction in the discipline of Regional Science during a calendar year.
- To be eligible for the Medal the author or co-author of the awardee article must have been a member of the British & Irish Section in any of the three previous years.
- The Medal shall be awarded by a jury of three.
- The jury will be appointed by the committee of the Regional Science Association International – British and Irish Section and will be renewed annually. The committee will comprise of at least one man and at least one woman.
- The jury shall have the sole authority to determine whether any article should be regarded as being within the discipline of Regional Science.
- Members of the jury shall not be eligible to receive the award of the Medal.
- The jury may elect not to award the Medal in any year that either there is no qualifying article, or they determine there is no article of sufficient merit.
- An individual may only be awarded the Medal once. However, members are eligible if they co-author an article with a previous winner.
- Any member of the Section may propose an article for consideration by the jury, for themselves or another member. The jury are not bound to choose from proposed articles and may select an article they propose themselves.
- Articles are eligible for the Medal in the calendar year in which they are accepted for publication and published online and/or the calendar year in which they are allocated to a journal volume.
- Decisions made by the jury are final.
