Stirling University and Stirling Court Hotel
5-7 July 2022
Dear Participant,
We are looking forward to welcoming you in Stirling next week for the long-awaited RSAI-BIS annual
conference. We are delighted that we are able to run this event in person. We hope that the
information below will be helpful as you plan your time in Stirling.
Conference venue and transport:
The conference sessions are held at the Stirling Court Hotel, located on the University of Stirling
campus. The campus is located to the north east of Stirling, mid-way between Stirling and Bridge of
Allan.
The hotel website has some information on how to find the hotel, plan your journey to Stirling and
details of on-campus parking arrangements: https://www.stirlingcourthotel.co.uk/find-us-parking
The hotel does offer free parking for guests/delegates in the hotel car park immediately in front of
the hotel – register your car at reception on arrival. If the hotel car park is full then there is overspill
parking in any of the car parks on the campus, charged at £5 per day.
There are frequent buses from Stirling City Centre to campus, though note that the ‘out of term
time’ timetables should be consulted. More information on those services can be found at:
https://www.stir.ac.uk/about/getting-here/ and a copy of the timetable is available here:
https://www.firstbus.co.uk/api/timetables/pdf?opco=22&service=UL&day=mf&print=pdf
Accommodation and arrival information:
Many of you have booked into the Stirling Court Hotel for your accommodation. Rooms are available
from 2pm on your day of arrival and – if you booked our special conference rate – breakfast is
included.
Guests staying in the hotel can use the University swimming pool and fitness centre free of charge.
Opening hours and timetable can be found here: https://www.stir.ac.uk/student-life/sport-at-
stirling/facilities/swimming-pool-timetable/
Conference sessions begin at 9.30 on Tuesday 5 th July, but many of you will be arriving in Stirling on
Monday evening. Whilst we have not arranged any formal activities for that evening, we suspect
that many attendees with gravitate towards the bar in Stirling Court Hotel, or explore some of the
other venues on/close to campus.
Conference programme and session information:
All conference sessions will be held in a suite of meeting rooms at the Stirling Court Hotel, with
breakout facilities for tea and coffee in the hotel conservatory and lunch in the hotel restaurant.
The registration desk will be open on Tuesday morning and throughout the conference, providing
printed copies of the conference programme and information on social events.
Each session room is equipped with a laptop and projection facilities.
Please find the online conference programme here.
In order to help us reduce the environmental impact of the conference, please bring your own
lanyard to use with your conference name badge if possible. We will have a supply of spares on the
day.
SEA Keynote: Making it easy for regional scientists to consider (urban) form & function, Dani Arribas-Bel
We are very excited to announce the SEA Keynote will be held by Dani Arribas-Bel. Please find the abstract for the keynote and full bio here.

To celebrate the in-person nature of this conference, we have a packed social programme to
accompany the sessions. Social activities – all of which are included in your registration fee – include:
To avoid any confusion! There are two hotels in Stirling with similar names and we are using both as
part of the conference programme. The conference sessions – and accommodation for many
delegates – is at the Stirling Court Hotel on the University campus. The conference dinner is at the
Stirling Highland Hotel in Stirling city centre.
Other things to do in Stirling:
If you have any free time before/after the conference then you may wish to explore some of these
nearby attractions:
If you need a breather between sessions then the campus also has a series of self-guided campus
walks/runs from 1.7km to 5km: https://www.stir.ac.uk/about/getting-here/getting-around-
campus/campus-walks/
We hope that this information helps you plan your time in Stirling and look forward to seeing you on
5 th July.
Best wishes,
